Band play new songs on US NME Rock N Roll Riot Tour

The US NME Rock 'N' Roll Riot Tour 2007 continued tonight (November 1) with a triumphant hometown show for three members of headliners The Hold Steady.

The gig, at Minneapolis' 86-year old Minnesota State Theatre, was attended by the families of frontman Craig Finn, drummer Bobby Drake and guitarist Tad Kubler - all originally from the city.

"I spend a lot of time talking about Minneapolis in our songs so it was great seeing our name on the billboard over the venue," said Finn after the show. "A lot of great bands played the State Theatre – the Ramones, Iggy Pop, Blondie - so we're really proud to be here."

The all-ages crowd gave the band a homecoming welcome – although one member of the audience was watching more closely than the rest: "My mum was looking on our messageboard and reading about how we played a show in Columbus and I was really wasted," joked Finn, "so tonight I had to be a little more together than normal."

The band played three new songs, 'Magazines', 'Lord Don't Discontinue' and 'Ask Her For Adderall', the latter named after a prescription drug used to treat Attention-Deficit Disorder in children.

"I have to change the title of that song," said Finn. "We played it on one of the first nights of the tour, it got out on the internet and three days later someone came to one of our shows and gave me a whole bottle of the stuff. Whenever I've taken Adderall I can focus on things really clearly for four hours and then my head just really hurts."

The 2,150 capacity crowd was also notable for its equal gender split. "When we first started playing it was pathetic," laughed Finn. "We used to say that a girl at a Hold Steady show was a pissed-off girlfriend. Now the audience has started to even out. We have a lot more well-adjusted, normal people at our gigs."

Support came from Art Brut and Federale.

The Hold Steady played:

'Party Pit'
'Hot Soft Light'
'Chips Ahoy'
'Cattle And The Creeping Things'
'Ask Her For Adderall'
'Stuck Between Stations'

'Same Kooks'
