Holloways recordings destroyed in London venue fire

Band also lose equipment in pub blaze

The Holloways lost tens of thousands of pounds of equipment, along with demos for their new album, in the fire at the Nambucca venue last night (December 17).

The north London rockers' bassist Bryn Fowler was drinking in the Holloway Road pub just hours before the blaze, and has told NME.COM that the band are "utterly devastated".

"I live around the corner and was woken up by the sirens. I'm in complete shock, I just can't believe it," he said.

The fire is believed to have started in the boiler room in the basement of the venue, where the band stored all their instruments, amps and equipment.

"It looks like almost all of our gear has been destroyed, apart from my bass guitar, which was away being fixed, and one violin. It's utterly devastating because some of the stuff is totally irreplaceable – vintage amps, posters from tours of Japan. My first ever guitar was down there," added Fowler.

The band also lost demo tapes of new tracks in the blaze, which they had recently recorded in preparation for their forthcoming second album 'Tales From The Tarmac'.

"We were due to record those songs properly later this week. Obviously, that now won't be happening," said Fowler.

The band lived and formed in flats above the venue, with drummer Dave Danger the last to depart only weeks ago.

The band's manager Jay McAllister and tour manager Tre Stead, however, still live above the venue, but were safely evacuated last night.

As previously reported on NME.COM, there have been no known casualties as a result of the fire.

The Holloways were due to play a Christmas Party gig at Nambucca, which had recently undergone minor refurbishments, tonight (December 17).

The band will now DJ at Rooz Studio in Old Street and will be free.

Unfortunate for the band, but lets be honest here, it certainly isn't a loss to music, they're shite, they'll end up getting new equipment and continue bringing piss poor music out.

Hallelujah indeed. Tens of thousands of pounds worth of equipment, did they steal it? They haven't sold enough records to buy it.

'D.Conka' needs to get a life, is a bitter comment like that really necessary? I hope the best for the band and the venue, if you’re a Londoner and a fan of indie music you've probably been to the venue before. Bands like The Pigeon Detectives, Maccabees, Klaxons and artists like Jamie T, Jack penate and frank turner played their first gigs here it wasn't the most beautiful place in the world but it threw some of the best new music showcases in London. That’s the loss in my eyes. There’s no doubt that won’t rise from the ashes and when they do i'll be there!

I don't really like the Holloways but it is very harsh to think if I lost all of my equipment in a fire, first guitar etc, I would truly be devastated.... D. ConKa, you are right...

Why would you leave the only copies of your new demos in a pub? Own fault...

First the Hawley Arms, then Nambucca. God obviously doesn't have much time for pretentious indie wannabees.

How can people be so heartless? This event is deavastating - Nambucca was home to several people - they have lost everything. Lets hope that D Conka is never put in that position. Whatever you think of the music, it was a happy, successful venue and now sadly it has all gone.

Seriously though, gotta have some symphathy for them, and tbh their not that bad, not a fan but can't judge a band i've never listened to apart from "Generator"

You fucking idiots. People lost their homes, all their possessions, their jobs. A great venue that promoted new music has been destroyed. And the best you can offer is dull facetious quips about the fact you don't like the band (because the NME didn't tell you to anymore?). I sincerely hope your fucking house burns down so I can not give a shit.

As for the Holloways it is just a shame it was only thier first guitar, violin and shite ltrics they lost in the great blaze, wouldn't it be good if they were recording at the time. Hmmmmmmmm!!!!

here, thing is, the old saying comes into practise "if you cant say anything nice..." personally i think their a good band, my band has supported them in Newcastle Uni and we along with the crowd loved them, they are great guys and great musicians. At the end of the day, they must be doing something right to get the publicity and the fanbase they do. so before you all slate them and jump on the bandwagon, maybe YOU should fuck off and post us links of your band that are getting nowhere because you are SHITE. When you prove your better, ill retract my comments.Cheers
