The Killers play surprise London gig

Band stun crowd with intimate show

The Killers played a surprise show in London tonight (September 18).

The Las Vegas outfit returned to Camden’s Electric Ballroom – the scene of one of their earliest British gigs in 2004 –for the intimate performance.

Playing for just over an hour, the band mixed songs from forthcoming album ’Sam’s Town’ with tracks from their debut ’Hot Fuss’.

With most of the audience only learning of the secret show a few hours before stage time, frontman Brandon Flowers – sporting a spangly white jacket – praised the crowd, who included members of Keane, Bloc Party, Editors and Razorlight, for turning up.

“We’d like to thank Y’all,” declared the singer, “for making it out at such short notice… we wouldn’t be able to do it without you guys being so great to us, thanks.”

The gig also saw guitarist Dave Keuning make a rare public announcement from the stage, ahead of ’Mr Brightside’.

“Hello everybody, you don’t know me, but I’m in The Killers,” he joked. “I don’t say this enough but my favourite three people in the world are Ronnie Vannucci, Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer. I love those guys, hope you had a good time.”
