The Killers made their first UK festival appearance in nearly two years last night (June 24) at Hard Rock Calling.

Despite rumours that the band would be showcasing new material at their big comeback show, their set at the Hyde Park bash in London consisted solely of previously released material, including their cover of Joy Division’s ‘Shadowplay’.

This live appearance followed the Las Vegas band’s two-night residency at London’s Scala, which saw a setlist very similar to the one they played last night.

Speaking to NME ahead of the Hard Rock Calling show, the band’s drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr said of The Killers’ new material: "I think five songs are shaped up, and there’s about 20 other good ideas. But we’ve got another couple months of writing and figuring it out. We want the next record to be badass.”

The musician also spoke about his side project, Big Talk, describing it as a "rock'n'roll” album with “a lot of guitars, choruses. I keep hearing from my friends that it’s got a good vibe to it, that it makes people feel good. I don’t want to say too much. I hate when people describe things too much. Just go out and listen to it and tell me.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Hard Rock Calling. The Killers’ set was the first of the three nights of the London-based festival. Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart will serve as the other headliners for the festival this year.

The Killers played:

‘Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll’
‘Spaceman’
‘Somebody Told Me’
‘For Reasons Unknown’
‘Smile Like You Mean It’
‘Losing Touch’
‘Bones’
‘Spaceman (Reprise)’
‘Bling (Confessions Of A King)’
‘Shadowplay’
‘Human’
‘A Dustland Fairytale (Moon River)’
‘Read My Mind’
‘Mr Brightside’
‘All These Things That I’ve Done’
‘This Is Your Life’
‘Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine’
‘When You Were Young’
