The Killers' Brandon Flowers has admitted that he took singing lessons before the band started work on their new album 'Battle Born'.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the frontman of the Las Vegas rockers revealed that he had consulted a voice coach to work on his pipes, although he insisted he wasn't planning on radically altering his existing style or "trying to be an opera-singer".

"It seemed like the right thing to do," he said. "I wanted to be better, get better and it's just helped me… [My voice teacher] knows what my ambitions are and he knows there's a certain style and something I've already got going on. We're just trying to fine-tune a few things."

Flowers also spoke of the challenges facing rock bands in today's musical climate, adding: "We're not shy about wanting to have big songs. Now it's strange, it's tough to be a rock band right now. It is. The rock stations are dying.

He went on to say: "I really shouldn't have anything to complain about because we got our foot in the door at the last second. I feel sorry for young guys now that love rock'n'roll and are struggling to find a home."

Battle Born' is The Killers' fourth studio album and the follow-up to their 2008 effort 'Day & Age'. The band are set to tour the UK this November, with the run of shows starting at Glasgow's SECC on October 26 and wrapping up on November 17 when the band headline the second of two shows at London's O2 Arena. The tour also includes stops in Aberdeen, Nottingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Sheffield and Liverpool.
