Kinks outrage at memorabilia removal

Davies brothers upset at plans to strip pub shrine

The Kinks have expressed their anger that the London venue they first performed in is set to rid itself of a shrine to the band when it becomes a gastropub.

Founding brothers Dave and Ray Davies have expressed their outrage at The Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill's plan to auction off the 'Kinks Corner' when it gets redeveloped.

Ray Davies said he was "genuinely disappointed" at the move, while Dave Davies asked "Have they lost their dignity, sense of local history and English heritage?".

Ray has gone as far as to send an open pleading letter to pub boss Caroline Jones urging her to retain their legacy there.

Although it closed late last year, the pub has attracted fans of the band from all over the world, many of whom have bombarded the venue with letters of complaint.

Ray has pledged to "do all I can to help" if the memorabilia, including rare signed vinyl and photographs donated by fans, gets removed.

He told the Hornsey And Crouch End Journal: "Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain; The Kinks and their music will always be inextricably linked with north London and the Fortis Green area in particular. Long after gastronomic styles have come and gone."
