The Last Shadow Puppets recruit orchestra for show

The Last Shadow Puppets played live with a full orchestra for the first – and so far only time – last night (April 16).

Alex Turner and Miles Kane's group performed three songs on BBC2's 'Later With Jools Holland' programme, backed by 12 members of the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

The group were conducted by Final Fantasy and Arcade Fire member Owen Pallett, who arranged the strings for the pair's album 'The Age Of The Understatement', while their band featured producer James Ford on drums and singer-songwriter Stephen Fretwell on bass.

The group played three songs - 'My Mistakes Were Made For You', 'In My Room' and single 'The Age Of The Understatement', which came out on Monday (April 14).

The set was the first time the duo had ever played with strings, having recorded their part and the orchestral parts separately last year. Turner and Kane have previously played acoustic shows as Last Of The Shadow Puppets.

The show will be broadcast on BBC2 on Friday (April 18) at 11.35pm (BST), with Portishead among the other groups on the show.

Despite what you've been told, being drunk doesn't help when performing a duet alongside a full orchestra for the first time live on national television. Unfortunately, Alex did this and unfortunately, the performance turned out to be gash.

i thought it was good. they sound like a soundtrack for a bond film. something a bit different is refreshing since alot of bands are tryin to copy the monkeys

Once again Mr Shankley you are 100% wrong. Neither Alex nor Miles were pissed, and it was a fantastic performance, I can't wait till monday, when potentially one of the best albums of the year comes out in "The Age Of The Understatement"

I thought they sounded great and the album could be a real treat. Maybe Mr Shankly was watching something else... as they were not drunk!

I totally agree wth soundedd this album is going to be something special, they are a unique songwriting partnership the first such partnership in god only knows how many years and this album will bring with it a new and fresh sound.

Surely the coolest aspect of all of this is Owen Pallett's involvement? The man's a genius!!
