Arctic Monkeys' mainman hits the top slot again

Arctic Monkeys mainman Alex Turner has scored his third UK Number One album tonight (April 27) as his side project The Last Shadow Puppets reached the summit with their debut 'The Age Of The Understatement'.

It's the third year running Turner has made the top - in 2006 he got there with the Monkeys' debut LP 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', while in 2007 the group's follow-up 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' also took pole position.

Turner's record with pal Miles Kane of The Rascals took over the Number One position from The Kooks' second LP 'Konk', which stayed at the top for just a week.

In the singles chart, Madonna is at Number One for a second week running, her Justin Timberlake-assisted effort from new LP 'Hard Candy', which is out tomorrow (April 28).

The UK Top Ten singles are:

1. Madonna - '4 Minutes'
2. Sam Sparro - 'Black And Gold'
3. Estelle ft Kanye West - 'American Boy'
4. Wiley - 'Wearing My Rolex'
5. September - 'Cry For You'
6. Flo Rida ft T Pain - 'Low'
7. Usher ft Young Jeezy - 'Love In This Club'
8. Will.i.am - 'Heartbreaker'
9. Duffy - 'Mercy'
10. Scouting For Girls - 'Heartbeat'

Cheesy

It's a victory for music that the last two number one albums have been guitar based- even if they're both shite. It's not exactly the Stones and the Beatles but its a bloody start. Hooray!

to cheesy: i hate that sort of attitude, that just because its guitar music its automatically has more merit than other genres.but yeh...the lsps....what a goddamn suprise, you get the feeling turner doesnt even care anymore because whatever he does just gets heralded as genius and sells millions anyway. it pisses me off

Hmmm... I'm still thinking about this one, actually. Don't get me wrong, I adore the combination of the two, I'm just a little unsure about some of their produce. I feel that 'In The Heat Of The Morning' should have been on the main album, not on The Age Of The Understatement EP. I'm not convinced with songs such as; Calm Like You, In My Room, Black Plant and Only The Truth. It feels as if something is lacking from these songs. The whole orchestra vibe is pretty amazing, i'll give them that, and the lyrics are up to Alex's standards, definitely. So why do I feel like there is a hole in the album? Am I alone on this? Out of 10? 6.
