Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando is recording in the studio with Ben Lee, nme.com can reveal.

While Lemonheads, whose last album 'Car Button Cloth' was released in 1996, never formally announced a split, it's believed they've drifted apart , as Dando has been working on his solo album with members of Calexico and Giant Sand in Arizona.

The material has been described as "very dark, mellow, brooding and country" and will be out later this year.

Dando has also recorded an album of country covers including songs by Gram Parsons and John Prine. It's expected to be released sometime in the future.

Meanwhile, Dando and Lee will join the Blake Babies for a show at the B & A Warehouse in Birmingham, Alabama on August 26th.

Meanwhile, Ben Lee recently recorded a version of the Pet Shop Boys 'I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It To You'. An MP3 download of the song is available via his website.
