Libertines had to abort their set two songs into their headlining set in the MOJAVE TENT at COACHELLA after previous bands over ran.

The band were due on stage at 11pm but due to technical difficulties earlier in the day, the previous band, Groove Armada did not even start until 10.50pm.

Drummer Gary Powell told NME beforehand: "We're hoping that the organisers will pay the fine for us over running."

Despite the fact that they risked a huge fine and being cut short they valiantly bundled onto the stage at 11.50pm and managed to get through two songs before the plug was pulled. The entire tent was plunged into darkness. Fans refused to budge, screaming for the band’s return until organisers sent people into the crowd to explain the situation.

This was set to be a crucial set for the band with much of the American music media pouring out to see the band on their first US dates echoing the previous two years scrum to see Vines (2002) and The Strokes (2001).

Singer Pete Doherty told NME.COM afterwards that the plug had been pulled and wasn’t sure what would happen.

NME.COM lobbied organisers to attempt to have a slot made available for the second day. The lobbying has been successful and the band have been allocated a slot today (Sunday) at 5:40 - 6:20pm on the Mojave Stage.
