Libertines, Last Shadow Puppets arrive at Shockwaves NME Awards

NME readers' faves make way to London ceremony

The Libertines pair Pete Doherty and Carl Barat and The Last Shadow Puppets are among the stars who have arrived at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2009.

As the event nears its official start at the O2 Brixton Academy tonight (February 25), NME faves have been treading the red carpet.

"I dunno if I'm looking forward to the Awards - should I be?" asked Doherty. "If I win I will be. Have I written a speech? I improvise these things."

The star, up for the Best Solo Artist award, then added that he's hoping for better luck than at previous ceremonies, saying, "I always have bad luck at these awards. I'm usually in rehab or prison or something, but I'm here tonight, so maybe that's a good sign."

Barat told NME.COM on arrival, "I'm not quite sure what to expect from tonight, really. I'm up for Sexiest Male, I think, so I hope I win that. I'll be happy if Glasvegas win though."

Turner said: "I want Elbow to win tonight. I like Elbow at the moment," while his Last Shadow Puppets bandmate Miles Kane added: "Yeah, we're buzzing about tonight. Want to win Best Track, that'd be nice but just glad to be here, it's boss."
