Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have proved their friendship is back on track, posting a photograph of them together online.

In a move that will provide fresh fuel for those hoping The Libertines will reunite once more, Barat posted the picture on his Twitter feed, with the former bandmates looking happy and relaxed in each others' company. He wrote: "Just spent the day with me ol. Tickety bibble x." He went on to add: "Oh, and by the way, Peter doesn’t have a twitter."

However, Carl was quick to quash rumours of a band reunion, contacting NME to say: "It wasn't a Libertines thing, just an overdue hug and a coffee rebuilding old bridges."

That the estranged pair are spending time together at all will nevertheless be seen as significant, since in May this year, relations still looked to be fractious. Barat told NME the band had "no future," saying:

We are all in very different places. Right now is not the time for The Libertines. I thought the water under the bridge was under the bridge, but maybe it's not. It's a very fucking hard thing. Every time we talk it just brings it back up."

He added:

"I don't believe we're healed from the hurt. If our hearts heal up then we can break them all over again. But right now… it's hard."

Doherty, who was recently released from jail after serving two months of a six-month sentence, will play this month's Reading and Leeds festivals as a solo artist.
