The Libertines will play a warm-up gig ahead of their Hyde Park show this summer, say the band.

It was today (April 25) confirmed that the band will headline the British Summer Time festival on July 5, on a bill that also includes The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park, The Enemy, Wolf Alice, Swim Deep, Darlia, Reverend & The Makers, I Am Kloot, The View, The Twang and The Rifles. See below for ticket details.

Speaking to NME ahead, co-frontman Pete Doherty said: "There'll be a warm-up, and there might be a free one for people who can't get into Hyde Park, maybe."

Carl Barât added: "We did mention it would be nice to do a warm-up – I’m sure the people who look at that stuff are fully clued up enough to leave the options open. It'd be cool to do somewhere of a similar size to The Forum [where the band played before their 2010 Reading & Leeds festival sets], somewhere where the audience is likely to be one that’s really into it and potentially starved of it perhaps. Not giving away too many clues there…"

Doherty also revealed that London's Hyde Park is a sentimental place for him. "Hyde Park was where I used to go courting actually," he said. "You know what, it was terrible. I'm not gonna lie to you! I mean, how many different people can you quote Sonnet 18 to?!"
