Pete Doherty has revealed that he and Carl Barât have spoken about the prospect of writing new songs together.

The Libertines announced news of their reunion last week and will headline the British Summer Time festival at London's Hyde Park on July 5. They released their final, self-titled album in 2004.

Speaking about their reunion in an exclusive interview in this week's NME, on newsstands now and available digitally, Doherty said that he and Barât had recently discussed writing new material. "We were talking about doing some new songs," he said. "Or even better, finishing some old songs that we always knew should have been on 'Up The Bracket' if we could have been arsed. I could hum them and Carl would know about them."

Barât added: "We're just talking, you know? I'm going to meet Pete next week, and you never know, we might play something. Really, it's just lovely to speak to Peter again. It's always funny, all the same kind of emotions come up. With Peter, however long it's been... whatever the number of years or minutes, it just doesn't feel like I've ever stopped talking to him really."

Since the announcement of their reunion and live plans, both Doherty and Barât have said that the band will play warm-up gigs prior to appearing at Hyde Park. Pete Doherty said: "There'll be a warm-up, and there might be a free one for people who can't get into Hyde Park, maybe."

Meanwhile, residents living near Hyde Park have complained about The Libertines playing in their area. Residents surrounding the Royal Park are not happy with the booking, objecting to Pete Doherty's presence in the area and fearing curfew times will be disregarded.

Tickets for The Libertines at British Summertime are priced from £55 and go onsale from 9am on Friday (May 2). To check the availability of British Summer Time tickets and get all the latest listings, go to "http://www.NME.COM/TICKETS.
