Pete Doherty has said that he wants Jack White to produce the new album from The Libertines.

The band confirmed that they plan to release a third album in 2015 and will play new material on their forthcoming UK and European live dates in September. The band's first two albums were produced by Mick Jones of The Clash. Until now a producer for their third album has not been mentioned.

However, speaking on French TV station D8, Doherty claimed that Jack White has expressed an interest in working with the band. "Jack White says he'd like to do it," the frontman told his host. "I'd love him to do it, it would be amazing, but I don't want to get too hopeful".

A spokesperson for Jack White confirmed to NME that he has never expressed an interest in working with The Libertines.

The Libertines previously discussed plans for their next release, saying they want their mooted third album to be "a little bit different".

Speaking at Benicàssim Festival in Spain earlier this year, the band confirmed that they would be debuting brand new tracks at their London Alexandra Palace shows on September 26, 27 and 28, but also spoke about how they want their next recorded output to be "special".

Pete Doherty gave more detail about the new songs they would be playing in London in September saying: "We're gonna be doing some new songs at Ally Pally. We were just working on one right now, before you came in. I can tell you that one of them has got this in it [makes a noise on a vintage typewriter]."
