The Maccabees have confirmed that they will release their new album at the start of 2014.

The band, who released their third album 'Given To The Wild' in 2012, updated fans on their progress with recording its follow up in a Facebook post which came after their final festival date of the summer. Confirming that the recording of the album has been "going well", they also teased the release of "something else" which will come out alongside the album next year.

The Facebook message reads: "Playing in spells whilst making the record has served to keep the whole thing going rather than taking any kind of substantial time out, so we are hopeful we will be able to get our fourth album out and with you all some time around the start of next year. It will feature something else to go alongside it, which will be a first for us, and so far the music has been coming along quicker and better than before. Obviously we can't be the judges of that really until it's done and out there. But it's exciting."

Elsewhere in the update, the band thanks fans for coming to see them play live at festival dates across the summer and single out Latitude as being one of their favourite shows. "Thank you for coming along and singing and making the run of shows fun," they wrote. "Latitude especially was up there with some of the more memorable ones on tour with 'Given To The Wild'."

Earlier this year, Maccabees frontman Orlando Weeks revealed to NME that the band were back working in their London studio and that they are producing themselves for the first time.

The Maccabees recently won Best Contemporary Song for the 'Given To The Wild' track 'Pelican' at the Ivor Novello Awards. The band released their debut album 'Colour It In' in 2007 and its follow up 'Wall Of Arms' in 2009.
