Felix White of The Maccabees has today released his first solo EP, 'Cosmo', featuring Florence Welch, Jessie Ware and Jack Peñate.

The guitarist has worked with former school friends Peñate and Ware as well as Johnny Bramwell of I Am Kloot on the release, which was initially planned to be an instrumental release of soundtrack music and sees White adopt the name Cosmo. Jamie N Commons, Adam Day – formerly of the Lyrebirds – and Hugo White, Felix's brother and guitarist in The Maccabees, also provide backing vocals on the seven-track release. Scroll down to watch the video for 'Yalla' now.

Speaking to NME about the song 'Yalla' as well as the EP, White says: "I sent it to Jack as he was interested in hearing it, and then he phoned me on the bus and said 'I think I have got a song for one of them', came round and it just happened in half an hour. That’s when it started becoming… music, rather than just random bits. Just after that happened, we went on tour with Florence. I had 'Yalla' and we were all hanging out and she said 'Oh, I like that one, I've got a song for that as well'. All the music was finished and then the vocals were done after with the people who wrote them. I co-wrote some of them, but it ended up being a total collaboration."

You can read an in-depth interview with Felix White about Cosmo in this week’s issue of NME, available digitally and on newsstands from Wednesday (September 25).

Recorded in The Maccabees' south London studio, the EP in its entirety cost just £100 to make. Videos for each of the five songs can be seen on www.cosmomusic.co.uk. The EP is available digitally from today and also on limited 10" picture disc vinyl - complete with CD, a perforated poster booklet and handwritten lyrics.
