The Mars Volta in split shock

The Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore has left the band on the eve of the release of their third album 'Amputechture'.

Blake Fleming, who played on the band's early demos, has been drafted in to replace Theodore for a forthcoming US tour which kicks off in Santa Cruz on August 7, reports punkbands.com.

Details of his departure are unclear as there has been no official statement from the band.

Pablo Hinojos-Gonzalez meanwhile, will be expanding his role within the group, contributing both guitar and sound manipulation skills.

'Amputechture' was originally slated for release on August 21 but it has now been put back until September 11.
