Comedy team promise 'stupidly elaborate odyssey' for live shows

The Mighty Boosh have declared they are taking inspiration from Muse as they prepare to headline their own festival as a band.

As previously reported, the Boosh played a low key 'dress rehearsal' gig last week (June 6), but are promising big things when they play their festival on July 5.

"We're going to try and make some stupidly elaborate odyssey," Julian Barratt told NME.COM. "I want to get some lasers attached to my guitar so I can do people’s cataracts while I solo, and I want a leather 'Matrix' coat like Muse."

He added: "Dave (Brown, who plays Bollo) will be doing backing stuff and percussion and Mike (Fielding, who plays Naboo) will be sitting on a toadstool and playing a magic sitar."

For the full details of The Mighty Boosh's plans get this week's issue of NME, on UK newsstands now, for an exclusive cover story interview.

The Mighty Boosh will headline their own festival on July 5 at Hop Farm, Kent. They are also set to headline the Big Chill Festival (August 1 – 3) at Eastnor Castle.

If there's humour in everything then The Mighty Boosh are about as funny as a vacuum. Simon Amstell taking the piss out of Noel Fielding on Buzzcocks was spot on.

I honestly don't think The Mighty Boosh is funny at all, I sat and I watched and I wondered if this was some kinda Saturday night Primival kinda family show. Because the humour is so dam tepid and wimpy. Setting it in a zoo just made me sum up my feelings on TMB, its a show for babies, better served on Cbeebies that some decent TV channel. Both of them are arrogent unfunny idiots and the hype circus that surrounds them and turned them into more of a band act than any kind of respectable comedy act is just ludicrous. Comedy has gone downhill so badly this decade well TV in general.

I'm a fan of The Boosh - but this whole thing smacks of them becoming self-indulgent and disappearing up their own 'holes.

Is it just me or is the Mighty Boosh actually crap?

This is about 5 years too late. They were excellent during the radio days but since they started doing the T.V show, their humour has become more and more watered down. It used to be so much more than Vince's hair and Howards 'tache. They seem like nice chaps but they're trying waaay too hard to fit in and be 'cool'.

We all know that the radio show was better than most of their work after it, blah blahBUT Boosh is a cult! This is the perfect opportunity for fans to immerse themselves obsessively and be geeky about it. More power to them!Plus you can't over look the fact that this is the first open air comedy festival ever, correct me if I'm wrong! (seriously, do)
