The National debut new songs at Berlin gig - watch

The band played 'Heavenfaced', 'Fireproof' and 'Graceless' at the Michelberger Hotel

The National premiered a host of songs from their forthcoming new album 'Trouble Will Find Me' last night (April 5) in Berlin.

The band performed at the Michelberger Hotel - scroll down to watch fan-shot footage of them debuting 'Heavenfaced', 'Fireproof' and 'Graceless' - via Consequence of Sound.

Speaking in this week's NME which is on newsstands now or available digitally, frontman Matt Berninger reveals that a preoccupation with death informed the band's new material.

"It's a record about getting older, and all the fascinations and headaches that go with that," he said. "But it's not grim, honestly! It's actually pretty fun.'"

He added: "There's a lot of big, visceral rock songs on this record; others have a classic feel. I was listening to Roy Orbison, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan. There's a lot of different colours to this record."

The band will release their sixth studio album later this year and embark on a UK and Ireland tour in November.
