The National have cancelled gigs in Russia and Ukraine because of the current political climate.

The band posted a message on their Facebook page notifying fans of the news, adding that they hope the situation "resolves in a positive, democratic and peaceful way". The full message reads:

Due to the ongoing political crisis in the region, we are sad to report that we have decided to cancel our shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev this summer. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase. We remain hopeful of coming to play for you in the future and we sincerely hope this current instability resolves in a positive, democratic and peaceful way. Take care of yourselves and we hope to see you soon.

Meanwhile, The National will appear on a bill alongside Neil Young & Crazy Horse at London's Hyde Park on July 12. They'll also be joined at Barclaycard British Summer Time by Tom Odell, Caitlin Rose, Phosphorescent and Flyte.
