Live Earth New York comes to a close

The Police, John Mayer and Kanye West closed the New York leg of live earth tonight (July 7) with a collaborative effort of The Police song ‘Message In A Bottle’.

Prior to the superstar collaboration, Roger Waters performed a Pink Floyd-classics set including hits such as ‘The Wall’ and ‘Money’, while Bon Jovi took to the stage in front of an ecstatic home-state crowd and performed a five of their best-known hits.

“Please stand for your national anthem” frontman Jon Bon Jovi told the crowd before launching into his own song ‘Wanted Dead Or Alive’.

Earlier in the evening, theSmashing Pumpkins played a short set in front of a myriad of celebrities including Kevin Bacon, Cameron Diaz, Zach Braff and Alex Baldwin while that afternoon US rocker Melissa Etheridge performed her Academy Award winning song ‘I Need to Wake Up’ from Al Gore’s documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.

AFI, Fall Out Boy, Akon, Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys also performed at the event which took place in Giants Stadium, New Jersey.
