The Prodigy have announced two shows at London's Brixton Academy, to take place on December 18 and 19.

The shows are billed as an 'end of the world extravaganza'. Believers in an ancient Mayan prophecy say that the world will end on December 21, 2012, which should give gig-goers a couple of days to recover first.

A message from the band reads:
Yo my peoples... fired up to be bringing Warrior's Dance back to the UK for its London debut at Brixton. We're gonna finish 2012 in style with a mega line up of beats, bass n noise. We are coming home! Respect. Keef, Liam & Maxim
Support acts are Jaguar Skills on December 18 and Araab Muzik on December 19, with Caspa, Southcentral and Gedo Mega Bitch playing both nights.

The Prodigy have performed at Brixton Academy numerous times in their 22-year career. At one Prodigy show, the venue's false floor – erected over the famous sloping floor for certain events – collapsed, with members of the crowd falling in. Venue staff fixed it as the band played on.

The live dates follow the band's reissue of their most successful album, 'The Fat Of The Land', on December 3. The album, which sold over 10 million copies after its release in 1997, will be reissued in a package that will include a remix of 'Smack My Bitch Up' by Major Lazer, as well as remixes from Noisia, Zeds Dead and Baauer.

The band are currently working on their sixth album, which has been given the working title 'How To Steal A Jet Fighter'. Speaking to NME about the LP earlier this year, mainman Liam Howlett said he was going to avoid big-name collaborations.

Howlett, who has collaborated with the likes of Liam Gallagher, Dave Grohl and Juliette Lewis on previous albums, said: "I'm bored of the big collaborations. Maybe on a production level there's a few people I’m working with people lower down the scale."

A fan pre-sale for the Brixton shows is being held now at The Prodigy Store. General onsale starts at 9am on Friday (October 26).
