The Raconteurs cover 'Teenage Kicks' at Reading

John Peel's favourite song proves a highlight

The Raconteurs covered legendary DJ John Peel's favourite song 'Teenage Kicks' at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival tonight (August 25).

Jack White marked his return to the festival after several visits with his other band The White Stripes by playing a storming version of The Undertones classic on the NME/ Radio 1 Stage .

The band played a set drawn from their debut album 'Broken Boy Soldiers', as well playing a host of covers including Nancy Sinatra's 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)', The Stooges' 'TV Eye' and 'It Ain't Easy', the Ron Davies song made famous by David Bowie on his classic 1972 LP 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars'.

Speaking earlier to NME.COM, White said: "I love coming to Reading - British festivals are always the best."

He added: "It's a good room we're playing in - I saw Be Your Own Pet and The Fall in there earlier and it sounded great."
