The Rakes' former frontman Alan Donohoe has announced that he is set to embark on a new musical career "in disguise".

Following the break-up of the band last month, Donohoe has told XFM that he is set to team up with a pal for his next musical steps – but not under his own name.

"I've got an idea for another musical project with my friend Andy," he said. "It will be a bit like when Stephen King started writing his Richard Bachmann novels – I want to do the new project in disguise so I won't be riding on The Rakes' name. It will be next year that things really get going."

He added: "We've got some plans individually to do some other musical stuff. I just spent a fair bit of money on a new keyboard. I'm writing lots of new material but it will be very different from The Rakes."

The Rakes announced their split on October 22, cancelling European and US tour dates.
