The band and the director will attend the screening

Martin Scorsese's documentary film about The Rolling Stones will open the Berlin Film Festival.

Scorsese and the band will attend the February 7 screening of 'Shine A Light', organisers announced yesterday (January 15). The annual festival runs February 7-17.

"We are extremely excited to have the world premiere of this magnificent film as our opening gala," festival director Dieter Kosslick told the Associated Press. "Martin Scorsese has captured the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen."

'Shine A Light' was shot over two nights in 2006 at New York's Beacon Theatre, and features backstage footage as well as rare archive footage and interviews with the band, as previously reported.
