The Rolling Stones have announced two London dates for November – scroll down to watch a video of the announcement.

The rock legends will play London's O2 Arena on November 25 and 29 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They will also be playing two nights at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in the US on December 13 and 15.

The band made the announcement via a video posted to their Facebook page. "You must have guessed this was coming," they say in the video announcement, which you can watch below. "Surely you didn't think we weren't going to do this? There's been all these rumours floating around so here we are in Paris to give you the news…"

Soon we'll be back onstage in two cities that know how to rock’n'roll. Our hometown first – London. We'll play in the O2 Arena down in Greenwich by the river on the 25th and 29th November. Then across to the east coast of America where we're playing two shows in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center on 13th and 15th December. Four gigs, four nights with the Stones… maybe a few friends joining us. See you there…

Teasing the announcement earlier on this morning, they wrote "IS EVERYBODY READY? WE'RE SORRY FOR THE DELAY... IS EVERYBODY READY?" with a picture of the sleeve to their new greatest hits compilation 'GRRR!' on the band's flight cases.

"Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in!" Mick jagger said in a subsequent press statement. Keith Richards added: "Sorry to keep you all hanging around but the waiting is over. I've always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage and the same is true for the Stones. I'm here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon!"

The dates have long been rumoured, with frontman Mick Jagger claiming in July that they were planning on sharing a stage together this autumn. Last week (October 8), Keith Richards spilled the beans that the rockers would be playing shows in the UK and US, but didn't reveal when the dates would take place.

The band's long-term sax player then let slip last week (October 10) that he was gearing up to play shows in November.

The Rolling Stones will release a brand new greatest hits compilation in November titled 'GRRR!’. The collection, which coincides with the band's 50th anniversary, will feature two brand new songs, 'Doom And Gloom' and 'One More Shot', which were recorded in Paris last month. This is the first new material the band have recorded since their 2005 album 'A Bigger Bang'.
