Smashing Pumpkins hire teen drummer?
19-year-old Mike Byrne to replace Jimmy Chamberlin
Smashing Pumpkins have reportedly found a new drummer - and he is just 19.
Mike Byrne, drummer for Oregon-based band Moses, Smell the Roses apparently landed the gig after working for a week with Corgan last month, and blogged on his MySpace page that he was “off for another couple of weeks at Pumpkin camp”, reports Hipstersunited.com.
The Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan previously blogged that he had found the “drummer of the future” and that he planned to “work with him some more before it becomes official,” while Byrne’s Moses, Smell The Roses bandmate Ben Spees also Twittered that he is the “drummer of the future”, hinting that Byrne is who Corgan was referring to in his blog.
Byrne would be the replacement for Jimmy Chamberlin, who quit earlier this year, leaving Corgan as the group's only original member.
