Johnny Marr turns university lecturer

Guitarist will talk about mavericks and innovators

Johnny Marr turns university lecturer

Johnny Marr is to make his debut as a university lecturer next month.

The legendary guitarist from The Smiths and now The Cribs will address students at Salford University on November 4 in a lecture entitled 'Always On The Outside: Mavericks, Innovators and Building Your Own Ark'.

It will take place at Maxwell Hall, the scene of one of the last ever gigs by The Smiths in 1986, and will also be open to the public, according to BBC News.

Marr was appointed a year ago to hold workshops and masterclasses at the university.

John Sweeney, of the university's School of Media, Music and Performance described Marr as "the most influential guitarist of the last 25 years".

He added: "His lecture is a tremendous opportunity for our students and the wider public to benefit from his considerable experience and expertise. It promises to be a really special event."

Last night Marr joined Damon Albarn and a galaxy of stars at the Africa Exprez event at the BBC Electric Proms in London.
