Reports say band are close to reunion deal

Speculation has renewed that The Smiths may be on the verge of reforming.

According to a report in The Sun today (October 24), the four original members are close to signing a deal that would see them performing at the Coachella festival in California next year.

It is suggested that Morrissey's new manager - former MCA records boss Irving Azoff - has been instrumental in the proposed deal.

A source is quoted as saying: "It has looked impossible in the past but suddenly it all looks like it could happen. The buzz around the people who used to work for the band is they could play Coachella for a ludicrous amount of money.

"It's closer than it's ever been. The split was a messy affair, but time's a healer."

"The buzz around the people who used to work for the band is they could play Coachella for a ludicrous amount of money." Enough said.

I love The Smiths. I was ten when they split up, so only saw them on TV. Unless they are really, really hard up for money, I'd actually rather they didn't reform and instead preserved the mystique. However, some reformations have worked - saw Blondie live and they were brilliant, and Television were amazing, as were The Pixies (all of whom I saw once they reformed). Maybe instead of doing it for the money, if they really are reforming, how about doing it for - gosh shock horror - the music.

Much as I'd love to see it, considering this is based on a story in The Sun I think we should go on dreaming somewhat.

By “The Smiths” I hope they mean the full fine up and not just Morrissey and Marr. Its not The Smiths unless both Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke are there. And they should play Manchester, their home city, not Coachella

What a load of old Bollocks! The Sun is as reliable as a Mexican Bus timetable.I seriously cannot see Moz agreeing to this. Just one of those Red Flags that have people in anticipated reunion Hysteria. The Jam, The Stone Roses, Led Zep (ok they got it right one time) Pink Floyd even Nirvana at one point. Haven't they all been done at one time or another without materialising. Watch this space as Moz or Marr quashing these ridiculous rumours.

Sounds like complete bollocks - "It's closer than it's ever been" - yeah right...

That would be fantastic, but only if they do a tour afterwards.

Not gonna happen. Why is Morrissey becoming so instrumental in destorying the legacy of the Smiths? If they were to reform it would be a travesty.I have loved the Smiths for a long time, this would undermine my love for them and i fear my love would never be the same again. Morrissey needs to get a grip and get out of America, Johnny needs to say No! Dont do it Johnny!!!!

This is of course, from the same publication that 'exclusively' told us that Robert Plant had agreed to tour with Led Zep, a day before Plant came out and said it was lie. Expect Morrissey to release a statement saying it's all lies within 48 hours, or I'll eat my daffodils and flush my hearing aid down the bog....

ok ok...i was a MAJOR Smiths fan in my youth ( yes im old) but i think it would be terrible for them to reform now.....for one thing morrissey wants joyce dead and doesnt especially love Rourke either, Marr has been doing good work with modest mouse and Cribs.why would he want to go back to all that stuff? Morrissey is a washed up laughing stock who is now a very, very bitter man...remember them as they were and move on

Not on god's green earth will this happen. Down to many, many reasons that true Smiths fans know already.
