The Spice Girls offer to sing for Nelson Mandela

Victoria Beckham and co want to serenade former South Africa president

The Spice Girls have offered to perform live for former South Africa president Nelson Mandela for his 90th birthday this coming June.

A huge concert is being planned for June 27 in his honour, set to take place in London’s Hyde Park.

Although the band have indicated their willingness to join the bill, they have not been officially invited to play, reports BBC News.

We're great friends of Mr Mandela and we would love to perform for him again,” said Mel Chisholm, referring to the time they met him in Johannesburg in 1997.

Geri Halliwell added: “We were privileged enough to meet the man and he is just amazing. He's just an example of strength and humility and if we could be part of that, celebrating his life – wow.”

The Spice Girls are set to finish their current world tour in Vancouver on February 26.

They had cancelled live dates set for later in the year amid rumours that they had fallen out with each other, citing “family commitments” as the reason for the gig culling.
