The Stone Roses' debut to get 20th anniversary reissue

Album to be re-released as boxset in June

A box set version of The Stone Roses' 1989 self-titled debut album, originally released in 1989, is set to be released later this year – the album's 20th anniversary.

The new version is set to be released in June, although an exact release date is yet to be set. John Leckie, who produced the album, has re-mastered the record for the box set release.

Keep checking NME.COM for further details about what will be contained in the box set when released, plus information about a smaller, 'legacy' edition of the album, which will also be released.

Are you flippin' joshing, or what?! The most over-rated 45 minutes of Hollies-soundalike Brit-cack is to be reissued as a boxset!? A BOXSET!? And what, pray tell, is going to be on that? The same handful of anonymous rave-by-numbers remixes which cropped up on the last 57 re-releases of this shitheap? A tape of Ian Brown's voice coach driving a dagger under her own shoulderblade in desperation? A field recording of Cressa practicing his spazz-dancing at Spike Island? Or perhaps the guffaws of a million Americans gloating at the death of British music as the commercial and critical force it had been 1964, and never would be again. The Stone Roses and their bastard Britpop offspring did more damage to British music than SAW, The Spice Girls and Simon Cowell put together.
