The Stone Roses' John Squire has denied claims that the band are planning to reform.

The guitarist was responding to reports yesterday (March 17) that the Manchester band were set to play a series of summer shows, and possibly next month's Coachella Festival.

Speaking to NME.COM, a spokesperson for Squire said he was not involved in reunion of The Stone Roses, describing the reports as "unfounded from John Squire's perspective".

They added they that they could not comment on behalf of the rest of the band, but stated: "John is not initiating a reunion or tour."

As previously reported, the timing of the claimed reunion seemed unlikely as Squire is staging a major art exhibition this summer.

The show, Squire's biggest to date, kicks off in July 5 at the Gallery Oldham, and in January the guitarist told NME.COM he would be concentrating on his art career this year.

"I've got a big show in Oldham and one in Austria and one at the end of the year in Tokyo," he said. "The Oldham show is in a major public gallery so it's a lot of work. It's the biggest show I've done."

Squire added that he didn't play guitar much these days as he was concentrating on art more.

Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown also distanced himself from the reports, stating he was concentrating on his forthcoming solo album.
