John Squire lets art do the talking on Stone Roses reunion

'I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the Stone Roses' grave'

The Stone Roses' John Squire has made his feelings clear on a possible reunion once and for all – by creating artwork about it.

The work, called 'Statement' (pictured), has been created after it was claimed The Stone Roses will be reforming this summer.

In the mould of his recent work, the former guitarist's statement simply declares: "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses, 12.3.09."

As previously reported, it always looked unlikely Squire would re join his old band this summer as he is staging a major art exhibition.

The show, Squire's biggest to date, kicks off in July 5 at the Gallery Oldham, and in January the guitarist told NME.COM he would be concentrating on his art career this year.

"I've got a big show in Oldham and one in Austria and one at the end of the year in Tokyo," he said. "The Oldham show is in a major public gallery so it's a lot of work. It's the biggest show I've done."

See Johnsquire.com for more information.

Meanwhile a piece of artwork created by John Squire for the cover of War Child's 'Heroes' album is up for sale in a charity auction now.

A brave act, or a cowardly one?

Neither, what's done is done, he doesn't want to go back and do something that was dead and buried many moons ago, not for any amount of money being thrown at him.

Hmmm... I prefer him as a guitarist, but hey, what do I know?

With artwork like that, he's going nowhere! As much as I love the Roses, I wouldn't want to see a reunion. Some things are better left as they are

How can this be perceived as a 'cowardly act' ?Surely the easiest thing in the world would be to do the reunion and pick up a load of cash. Not doing the tour to concentrate on his current art career is a far more honourable thing to do.
