The Stone Roses' Mani has revealed that he's eating dozens of bananas every day to get in shape for the band's huge reunion gigs next summer.

The Manchester band are preparing to play homecoming gigs at Heaton Park on June 29, 30 and July 1 2012, with festival dates and an arena tour strongly rumoured to follow.

Speaking to The Sun, Mani admitted that he's had to reassess his junk food diet to ensure he's fighting fit for the reunion - and has been chomping on up to 12 bananas per day.

He commented:
I'd forgotten how good they taste. They're brilliant. I hope they'll do the trick and get the old fitness levels sorted for me.

The departing Primal Scream man added: "The moment I heard we'd sold 225,000 tickets in an hour I thought, 'Bloody hell, I'd better get myself sorted for this one'. I can't believe all this is going on but we've got to prepare big time, so it's bunches of bananas for me for a while now."

Meanwhile, British filmmaker Shane Meadows is in line to make a documentary about the reunion gigs next year, with reports suggesting The Stone Roses will give official confirmation that they're up for it over the next five weeks.
