The organiser of Reading And Leeds Festivals has said he'd consider booking The Stone Roses to play at the event again at some point "in the future".

The recently reformed Manchester band played a disastrous set at Reading Festival in 1996, two months before they originally split. They've already been booked to play at one UK festival next summer - T In The Park - and are also strongly rumoured to be headlining V Festival, in addition to their huge Heaton Park homecoming gigs and global festival dates.

Speaking about the possibility of the Roses returning to Reading, chief executive of organisers Festival Republic Melvin Benn told NME that it wouldn't be appropriate for Ian Brown and co to appear next year.

But he left the door open for a slot in the coming years, commenting:

The Stone Roses are one of the seminal bands for people of a certain generation here in the UK. They're as important to people in the UK as Nirvana in a way and of course we'd consider having the band [play].

Benn continued: "It wasn't even something they considered or we considered [this year], but of course we'd consider having them back in the future."

Reading And Leeds Festivals will take place between August 24 – 26, 2012, with headliners set to be announced in the spring.

Presale tickets for the festival, along with other events run by Festival Republic including Latitude and The Big Chill, went onsale last week. Ticket purchases are able to buy their tickets at the same price as tickets cost in 2011.
