The Stone Roses' guitarist John Squire is said to be "extremely sad" after his art studio burned down at his home in Macclesfield, Cheshire, this week (November 21).

At least 20 firefighters were called to the fire at the converted barn next to Squire's home, which is believed to have started accidentally, the BBC reports.

Squire became a full-time artist after taking a break from music in 2004. He did the Jackson Pollock-style artwork for the Roses' self-titled debut album and has displayed his work in galleries.
Only two works from Squire's recent Celebrity series were lost, as there no other works were in the studio at the time.

According to The Independent Vivienne Gaskin, Squire’s agent, released a statement saying "It could have been much, much worse. He has got about four of the paintings from the collection in his home and the others have been sold. The studio was built near his home so his family were his main priority but they are all fine."
She added: "Knowing that they are safe, he is obviously extremely sad that these paintings have gone and he will now have to completely re-build the studio."

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental."
