'Made Of Stone' director Shane Meadows has spoken about his time documenting The Stone Roses reunion last year, stating that he threatened to kill himself if the band decided to work with any other director.

Speaking to The Guardian, Meadows explained that after he had been told by singer Ian Brown of the band's intention to film the reunion he replied, ''Look, if you are thinking about making a film and you let anyone else do it, I will kill myself. So you're going to have to let me do it.'"

The former This Is England director also went on to enthuse about the event itself, saying that when he found out about it his "head exploded" and he started hyperventilating, as well as stating the long-lasting importance of the Manchester band. "If you attach yourself to certain people at a certain point in your life, they never become human again, they're always gods," he said. "The Stone Roses are like that for me."

'Made Of Stone', which follows the band from the initial stages of their reunion through to last summer's celebratory gigs at Heaton Park, is set for release on June 5, whilst a trailer for the film can be seen below. The premiere of the film, which will take place on May 30, is also set to be satellite-linked to 100 cinemas across the UK, providing a simultaneous preview event to the premiere itself.

The Stone Roses will continue their reunion dates, meanwhile, with two large outdoor gigs at Finsbury Park on June 7 and 8 and a further date at Glasgow Green on June 15. Support for the London shows will come from a selection of guests including Johnny Marr, Dizzee Rascal and Public Image Ltd, whilst the Scottish date will play host to Primal Scream, Jake Bugg and The View.
