The Stone Roses refuse to comment on rumours of a new album in 2015
Bassist Mani quoted as saying the Manchester band will release new material in two years time
Though the band reformed in 2012 for a series of live shows, including a run of huge homecoming gigs in Manchester, there have been no songs for new fans to hear so far. However, the band's bass player, Mani, is quoted by a source as saying that there will be a new studio album from The Stone Roses in 2015.
Speaking to Gigslutz in Manchester, Mani was asked about the possibility of new songs and said: "Yeah we've been working on a few bits." Pushed for a specific date to when fans will hear the album, he replied: "2015 man, 2015!" Asked to confirm or deny what Mani said, a spokesperson for The Stone Roses told NME: "No comment."
The Stone Roses do have a record deal should any new material emerge and are known to be working on fresh songs. In 2011 the band signed two record deals ahead of their 2012 reunion shows. Universal Records have signed the band in the UK and worldwide, while Columbia, owned by Sony, have contracted the band in the US.
Meanwhile, speaking earlier this year guitarist John Squire said that The Stone Roses have written new songs together. The guitarist of the band spoke at the premiere of the Shane Meadows film Made Of Stone in Manchester in May. Asked what the situation with new material is, Squire replied: "We're working on it. It'll be ready in about five years. We've got a few new songs. I can't really tell you much about it. We won't be playing the songs live until we've recorded them. We're working on it this year."
