Director Shane Meadows has discussed his time around The Stone Roses as they worked on new music following their reformation in 2012.

Though the band reformed in 2012 for a series of live shows, including a run of huge homecoming gigs in Manchester, there have been no new songs for fans to hear so far. The band have a record deal with Universal Records having signed the band in the UK and worldwide, while Columbia, owned by Sony, have contracted the band in the US.

Speaking to NME following an auction of Stone Roses photographs to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, Meadows was asked if he had heard any songs the band have written. The director, who filmed the band for the Made Of Stone fly on the wall documentary, said: "I went up one day when they’d been writing some stuff and there was a four-track machine there and I thought now I'm actually editing the film, if they walk out of the room and leave that I'm going to press play and I'm going to risk getting beaten up just to hear it. They never left me in the room on my own."

Despite having not heard any of the songs in full, Meadows continued: "I know they were writing and it wasn't fiction and I know that there were definitely tunes getting laid down. But, as with everything to do with The Stone Roses, putting a time frame on it I wouldn’t have the faintest idea."

Meanwhile, Shane Meadows video for Jake Bugg's 'Slumville Sunrise' premiered earlier today (October 21). The video was shot by the director, who is known for films such as This Is England. In the video, which you can see here, Bugg steals an engagement ring worth £20,000 from a jeweller’s before going on the run from police.
