The Strokes have announced plans to perform at a special tribute concert for former Ramones legend Joey Ramone.

The band will play alongside the Dead Boys, The Dictators' Andy Shernoff and Cheetah Chrome at New York's Irving Plaza on May 19 on what would have been the late singer's 55th birthday, reports Billboard.

The Joey Ramone Birthday Benefit was set up a month after he lost his seven-year battle with cancer in April 2001.

A year later bassist Dee Dee Ramone died from a drug overdose.

Guitarist Johnny Ramone also passed away after suffering with cancer in 2004.

Tickets for the bash are priced at $25 (£14), and are on sale now.

All proceeds will go the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
