'Hard To Explain' voted The Strokes' greatest song by NME.COM users
Band's 2001 debut single edges out 'Someday' and 'Reptilia' in 10th anniversary poll
The track was voted just ahead of another of the New York band's 2001 singles, 'Someday', and 2004's 'Reptilia', with 'You Only Live Once' and 'Last Nite' completing the top 5 in the poll.
The vote was held to mark the 10th anniversary of five-piece's debut album 'Is This It', which was first released in Australia on July 30, 2001 before hitting shelves in the UK and US around a month later.
Users were asked to rate the band's tracks out of ten - 'Hard To Explain' received an average of 9.35, 0.01 of a mark ahead of its two nearest rivals. No song in the top 20 received less than an 8.
'Is This It' was recorded in New York with producer Gordon Raphael in spring 2001 and received a perfect 10/10 in its NME review. It was kept off the top spot in the official UK albums chart by Slipknot's sophomore LP 'Iowa'.
