The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr. to release EP on Julian Casablancas' label

The five track 'AHJ' will come out on October 8 through Cult Records

The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr is set to release a solo EP 'AHJ' on October 8.

The five-track release will come out on bandmate Julian Casablancas' Cult Records and follows his 2006 debut album 'Yours to Keep' and 2008's '¿Cómo Te Llama?'. Speaking about the release, Hammond Jr. said: "It’s a combination of both previous recordings, which in turn makes it feel like it’s the best material that I’ve made so far."

The new release was produced, engineered and mixed by Gus Oberg and recorded in Hammond Jr.'s own studios, in Manhattan and upstate New York. "I've been working with him since my first solo project, after we met and became best friends," said Hammond Jr. of Oberg. "We get along and we understand each other musically, so everything just flows."

Albert Hammond Jr. has said that The Strokes will return to action at some point in the future, despite not having played live since releasing their latest album 'Comedown Machine'. The album, which was released in March, was not supported by any gigs and nor have they spoken about the album as a band. However, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. recently told NME that he suspects the group will do something in the future, saying that they have got the past of not making music together.

"At some point we will do something and we will speak about it wholly and it will feel good," Hammond Jr. explained. He added: "It just feels too one-sided or weird or not fun when it's not coming as a group effort, but everything's great. The Strokes are always open to... it's always going to have something. I'm not saying that's the word from the band, just that's how I look at it, how it feels - like we've gone past the point of not doing stuff."
