The Strokes' guitarist Albert Hammond Jr has accused Courtney Love of being "full of shit".

Speaking in an interview with Noisey about his former addiction to drugs, he made the comment when responding to something the Hole frontwoman once said about crack use making her higher functioning and a "whiz at calculus".

"She's full of shit," he replied, adding: "People make statements like that. They're trying to express in words. I think it needs to sound more extreme just to have that effect. She's describing that she had extreme focus on one thing, whereas most of the time, she was just more all over the place. She's definitely full of shit."

Hammond Jr - who recently released a new solo EP, 'AHJ' - discussed his addiction in depth for the first time with NME earlier this autumn, revealing he went to rehab in 2009. Admitting he was in a "dark place" when The Strokes released their second album 'Room On Fire' in 2003, Hammond said: "It was, like, oxycontin and cocaine at 24, 25, 26. and then I became [addicted to] heroin around then. So from 26, 27 'til 29. It's not so much that I wasn't in a happy place. I was just... God knows where I was. I was just very high. That's where I was."

Pushed for specifics as to the extent of his addiction, Hammond Jr said: "I used to shoot cocaine, heroin and ketamine. All together. Morning, night, 20 times a day. You know, I was a mess. I look back and I don't even recognise myself. I did my own thing."

The singer, now four years sober, released a solo EP called 'AHJ' in October through bandmate Julian Casablancas' Cult Records. It follows his 2006 debut album 'Yours to Keep' and 2008's '¿Cómo Te Llama?'. He will play five shows in the UK next month.

Albert Hammond Jr will play:

Brighton The Haunt (December 5)
Glasgow Broadcast (7)
Manchester Night & Day Café (8)
Leeds Brudenell Social Club (9)
London XOYO (10)
