The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr has said that he is keen for The Strokes to tour, following their comeback gig on Saturday night (June 7) at Governors Ball festival in New York.

Speaking on Twitter following the show, Hammond Jr responded to the comment: "Please tell this band to tour more than one offs every 4 years." by writing "U think I dont wanna tour/that's all I want".

The Strokes played their first festival show since 2011 over the weekend at Governors Ball on Randall's Island in New York. The band took to the main GovBallNYC Stage of the event at 6.45pm local time, ahead of the evening's headline artist Jack White. Playing in the sunshine, frontman Julian Casablancas, who had performed with his band The Voidz the previous day - where he reportedly said his new solo album was due out in September - was sporting a blue Hawaiian shirt for the show.

On a bill that also included Chance The Rapper, Disclosure, Skrillex and Spoon, the five-piece band opened their set with 'Barely Legal' from their 2001 debut album 'Is This It', before playing a career-spanning set, that also featured a host of tracks from last year's 'Comedown Machine' - which they did not tour at the time - including 'Welcome To Japan', 'One Way Trigger' and 'Happy Ending', which all received their live debut on May 31 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, the band's first gig since November 2011.

The set also featured 'Take It Or Leave It', 'Hard To Explain' and 'Last Nite' from the band's debut, as well as 'New York City Cops', which closed their show. The Strokes last played the UK at Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2011.

The band's only other booked show of the summer is at FYF Fest in Los Angeles in August.
