The Temper Trap have spoken about their new self-titled second album and revealed that there is a strong "'80s synth" influence on the record.

The Australian band's second studio album will be released in the UK on May 21, with a single 'Need Your Love' released on May 7. You can hear 'Need Your Love' by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

Speaking to NME about the album, the band's guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto said that they had decided to opt for a more electronic sound and have chosen to include more synth on the record.

He said of the band's synth-led new direction: "We've always wanted to go in that direction. We bought a Moog, and we already had a keyboard that had some synth elements. When we got in the studio it was our way of making things more textural, we used a lot of old '80s synths to the songs."

He continued: "We'd put synths down to mimic our guitar parts and sometimes we'd change it up so the tracks were synth-led rather than guitar-led. It was a big influence once we started recording."

Sillitto also spoke about the band's debut as festival headliners, which will take place this summer when they top the bill at Oxfordshire's Truck Festival.

Asked how the band were feeling at the prospect of headlining Truck, Sillitto said: "The UK was the place where it all started for us, so we're really excited. Headlining a festival seems so bizarre for us at this stage of things. It brings a bit of pressure because you've got to end the night. We've put together a new set, so it should all be all bedded in by the summer."

As well as headlining Truck, The Temper Trap will tour the UK in May in support of the album, playing a total of eight shows across the country. The gigs begin in Falmouth at the Princess Pavilions on May 9 and run until May 22, when the band play the second of two shows at London's KOKO venue.
