The Vaccines have declared that they are eager "not to make the same record again" as they start work on their second album.

The band, who released their debut LP 'What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?' in March of this year, told NME in an exclusive video that they had begun writing songs for its follow-up – scroll up to the top of the page and click to watch the video.

Frontman Justin Young said: "We're still finding playing the first record really fulfilling – it only came out six or seven months ago – but of course you're always writing songs and thinking about the future. We've started work on new songs."

The singer – who also insisted that the band "wanted to make a rock'n'roll record, an exciting record" – then went on to say they were keen to avoid the trap of producing a record too similar to their debut. He said:

Guitar bands in particular seem to get in the habit of making the same record over and over again, and I think we're really keen to avoid that. It's the natural thing to do, isn't it? 'What did people find attractive in us first time round? Oh, better not lose that then'.

He finished by saying: "I'm sure that deep down there's an element of that in all of us, but ultimately you start making music for yourself, so you've got to keep continue making music for yourself."

Last month, The Vaccines debuted their new single 'Tiger Blood' online. The track, which will be released on December 5, was produced by The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr.

You can read an exclusive interview with The Vaccines in this week's issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands and available digitally now.
