The Village People have been appointed as the judges of this year’s fancy dress competition at Bestival, which takes place 8-11 September.

The disco band – who were renowned for their elaborate onstage get-up – will decide who is the best dressed entrant in this year’s Rock Stars, Pop Stars and Divas fancy dress contest. The winner will receive a lifetime supply of Bestival tickets.

Bestival founder Rob da Bank said of The Village People: "I can’t think of a more suitable act to judge this year’s Fancy Dress competition than The Village People! They practically invented the genre so prepare to put some effort in to wow the cowboy, impress the policeman or win over the Red Indian with your best Rock Star, Pop Star or Diva..."

Entrants are required to email a photo of themselves in costume to fancydress@bestival.net, which will then be posted on the festival’s Facebook page before The Village People decide the winner on September 2.

This year's Bestival will be headlined by Pendulum, The Cure and Primal Scream, who will play their album 'Screamadelica' in its entirety.
