The Virgins play first headlining LA show at Club NME

New Yorkers get the packed house grooving

The Virgins got the packed house at Club NME Los Angeles with Fred Perry Subculture dancing last night (July 30) at their very first headlining gig in the city.

The hotly tipped New York quartet played several tracks from their recent self-titled debut album including 'She's Expensive' and 'Private Affair'.

"This is our last show for a while and I'm really happy we're playing it here," frontman Donald Cumming told the Spaceland crowd, which included actress Lucy Liu dancing in the front row.

The entire band was drenched in sweat by the end of their 40-minute set, which Cumming said was a good sign. "I can always tell it's been a good night when I end up like this," he said, pointing to his soaked shirt.

The band were called back for an encore, which was a cover of INXS' 'Devil Inside'.

"I had a blast and I hope everyone had as good a time as I did," Cumming told NME.COM after their set. "We've been to LA a lot but it was our first headlining show here."

Cumming added that the band plan to spend the next few weeks in their New York studio working on new material.
