Radio 1 celebrates White Stripes Wednesday

The band take over the airwaves

The White Stripes have been crowned with the accolade of White Stripes Wednesday by BBC Radio 1 this week (June 13).

The celebration of all things will culminate in two special performances by the band with both DJs Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe at the legendary BBC studios, Maida Vale.

Jo Whiley will kick things off between at 10am, as the band perform an exclusive stripped down session as part of Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Following this they’ll be more live music from the band in Edith Bowman’s show from 1pm.

Zane Lowe will continue White Stripes Wednesday as the band perform a gig at the historic Maida Vale studio, which will be broadcast live during Zane’s show from 7PM.

During the sessions, The White Stripes will be previewing tracks from their new album ’Icky Thump’, as well as a selection of their best known work.

Jo Whiley will finally bring the day to a close with In Live Music We Trust White Stripes Special, where an hour of Radio 1 archive moments will be celebrated, including their first ever live broadcast on UK radio on the John Peel Show, performances from Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2003, and their much-loved gig at Peel Acres in 2001.
